Applied Stochastic Models in Business and Industry (ASMBI), the official journal of the International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics (ISBIS), has a new Editor, Katherine Bennett Ensor. Kathy is Professor in the Department of Statistics at Rice University, Houston, TX, USA and currently is Vice President of the American Statistical Association. Kathy is replacing Nalini Ravishanker who had served ASMBI as Editor for 8 years and recently became Editor-in-Chief of International Statistical Review (ISR), upon recommendation by a committee of which I was member. As soon as we knew that Nalini was going to leave for ISR, we (Emmanuel Yashchin, i.e. the other Editor, Nalini and myself) started looking for a person who had a broad knowledge of Statistics, especially in Business and Industry, and the statistical community, besides being reliable and committed.

Nalini suggested Kathy and Emmanuel and I started looking at her CV and her achievements (there is not much privacy in the Internet era …) and we realized she was exactly the person we were looking for. Kathy, Nalini, Emmanuel and I met during a conference at SAMSI in Durham, NC, USA, in May and we had long discussions (and a very pleasant dinner, although it was not Italian food!) on our experience as ASMBI Editors and our view of the editorial policy, and plans for the future. Now Kathy has started her job as Editor, and today she made her first decision on a paper (a rejection, unfortunately for the authors, but ASMBI has very high thresholds for acceptance!). I am very glad Kathy accepted to become ASMBI Editor: she will be very helpful in shaping the journal policy and making ASMBI even more effective. Welcome on board, Kathy!
