Wiley authors win BBVA Foundation Award

Two authors who write for Communications in Pure Mathematics have won the BBVA Foundation Award and an article by each of them is now available to read for free. Ingrid Daubechies, Professor and James B. Duke Professor at Duke University and David Mumford, Professor Emeritus at Brown University share the BBVA Foundation Frontiers Award in Basic Sciences for 2012, which consists of $530,000.

Both professors have been recognised for “their works in pure mathematics, which have strongly influenced diverse fields of application ranging from data compression to pattern recognition” (BBVA press release, January 2013).

An article written by each professor is now available to read for free: Daubechies’ ‘Orthonormal Bases of Compactly Supported Wavelets’ and Mumford’s ‘Optimal Approximations by Piecewise Smooth Functions and Associated Variational Problems’.
