World Congress of Sociology and the the International Sociological Association, ISA) will host the largest academic event of Sociological Association from 14th July 2014.

The event is a step to promote the internationalization of sociology in Japan.

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the XVIII ISA WORLD CONGRESS OF SOCIOLOGY in Yokohama invites all the next generation sociologists in East Asia who are participating in the meeting in July 2014 to apply for the grant. The applicants must currently be the members of the A) Korean Sociological Association (KSA), Chinese Sociological Association (CSA) or Taiwanese Sociological Association (TSA), or B) Japan Sociological Society (JSS). We are pleased to provide this opportunity for the future sociologists in East Asia with generous donations from the individual members of the Japan Sociological Society (JSS).

JSS will provide Travel Grant for starting scholars in East Asia for their participation in Yokohama. This is to further encourage academic activities and exchanges with KSA, CSA, and TSA which have official academic exchange agreements with JSS. A total of 20 applicants will receive JP¥25,000 each.

Eligibility - An applicant must:

1.send an paper abstract by September 30, 2013 and be accepted as a regular session presenter;

2.register for her/his XVIII ISA World Congress participation by April 1, 2014;

3.be within 10 years of receiving her/his master’s (or equivalent) degree at the end of June 2014;

4.be living away from Japan; and

5.be a member of either KSA, CSA, or TSA. Your citizenship is not part of the eligibility requirement.

*LOC will select the grant awardees based of the abstract. The grant will be provided after your successful presentation at the XVIII ISA World Congress in July 2014.

If you are a member of JSS, you could make an application for the following 2) Grant for JSS Starting Scholars. You are, however, allowed to receive only one of the two grants.
