'Big Data' panel debate at the British Academy

A panel on the 'Big Data' debate will be held on 5th November 2012 at the British Academy chaired by Polly Toynbee, columnist for the Guardian and former Social Affairs Editor at the BBC.

Toynbee will be joined by Professor Paul Boyle, Chief Executive of the Social and Economic Research Council (ESRC), Professor Harvey Goldstein, Professor of Social Statistics at University of Bristol, Dr Farida Ris, Research Fellow in Social Sciences at University of Sheffield and Paul Woobey, Chief Information Officer (CIO), Director of the Strategy and Standards Directorate, Head of the IT Profession and Senior Information Risk Owner or the ONS.

The panel contributes to the ESRC Festival of Social Science and will cover the opportunities 'Big Data' offers to the social sciences; the challenges to be faced;  the skills, training and resources required and the wider implications for public scrutiny and debate.
