Biometrical Journal will publish a Special Issue on “Recent Advances in Computational Methods for Biostatistics”, linked to the 21st Conference on Computational Intelligence Methods for Bioinformatics and Biostatistics, CIBB 2026, which will take place in Rome on 2–4 September 2026. The Special Issue will showcase extended versions of outstanding papers from the Biostatistics track of the conference.

The aim of this Special Issue is to publish high-quality papers presenting original contributions in biostatistics, with a particular focus on novel methodological developments that combine rigorous statistical theory with practical computational implementation.

We welcome papers that deliver principled statistical inference under realistic data challenges, including but not limited to high-dimensional data, complex study designs, multivariate and longitudinal outcomes, causal inference, Bayesian methods, machine learning approaches, computationally efficient algorithms, and applications to biomedical, epidemiological, genomic, and public health research.

The idea for this Special Issue arose from CIBB 2026 in Rome. However, contributions are not restricted to conference participants, and submissions from the broader biostatistics community are warmly encouraged.

The deadline for fully developed papers is 31 January 2027. This deadline is firm. We expect all submissions to have completed a first round of review by the end of August 2027. The Special Issue will be published continuously, with accepted manuscripts appearing online as soon as they are ready.
