Biometrical Journal will publish a special issue at the occasion of the 46th Annual Conference of the International Society for Clinical Biostatistics (ISCB) held in Basel, Switzerland under the conference theme:
Statistical Thinking Across Borders:
Building Bridges and Expanding Horizons in Clinical Biostatistics
Submission deadline: 31 December 2025
This special issue aims to publish on a fast track high-quality papers on cutting edge biostatistical and health data science methods for clinical research presented (orally or as posters) at ISCB 2025. Papers on any topic covered by the conference may be submitted to the special issue. Papers on any of the following areas are encouraged, especially if combining/connecting two or more of these areas:
- Survival Analysis and Multi-State Modelling
- Clinical Trials – Design & Analysis
- Causal Inference / Real-World Data / Estimands
- Missing Data
- Meta-Analysis
- Model Selection, Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning in Clinical Research
- Meta-Science in Clinical Biostatistics
Importantly, both “late phase” studies (e.g., neutral comparison studies or in-depth assessments of existing methods) and “early phase” studies presenting new methods are explicitly welcomed (see terminology by Heinze et al., Biometrical Journal 2024: https://doi.org/10.1002/bimj.202200222).
Papers may be submitted even if they have not been presented at ISCB46 if the authors feel strongly that they fit to the above themes. The review process will follow the general reviewing principles of Biometrical Journal and will be handled by the Special Issue guest editors: Anne-Laure Boulesteix, Vanessa Didelez, Sarah Friedrich, Kate Lee, Giusi Moffa, David Phillippo, Garth Tarr, Wouter van Amsterdam, Liesbeth de Wreede.
All papers have to be submitted via the online submission system of Biometrical Journal; the appropriate link can be found at: /page/journal/15214036/homepage/forauthors.html
In submitting a paper, please choose “Yes” in answer to “Is this submission for a special issue?”, and select “ISCB 2025 Basel” in the Special Issue information drop down menu. Submitted papers should comply with the instructions for authors of Biometrical Journal, at /page/journal/15214036/homepage/forauthors.html
The deadline for submitting papers is 31 December 2025. This will be a sharp deadline.
We expect that all submitted papers will have been first reviewed by early to mid 2026 and that the Special Issue will be published by end 2026. Authors are expected to be available as reviewers for other papers submitted to the special issue.
Note that the Biometrical Journal has implemented a Reproducible Research audit; details can be found on its website. Authors are asked to submit statistical code, original data sets, and details of simulations at the time of first submission. All statistical code should be upload as “ready to run” material so that it can be examined during the review process for this Special Issue.
