Biometrical Journal: Call for Papers: Special Issue on Closed Testing and Related Topics

Biometrical Journal will publish a Special Issue on “Closed testing and related topics” at the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the closed testing procedure. Closed testing was first proposed in the seminal paper by Marcus, Peritz and Gabriel (Biometrika, 1976), and has since been shown to be a fundamental principle of multiple testing.

This Special Issue aims to publish high-quality papers on any topic related to closed testing. However, papers in any of the following areas are particularly encouraged:

• Cutting-edge biostatistical methods for multiple test problems and simultaneous inference problems
• Review papers and tutorials related to closed testing procedures
• Review papers on applications of the closed testing procedure in specific areas of life sciences

Guest Editors: Markus Neuhäuser, Werner Brannath, Jelle Goeman, Gerhard Hommel

The idea for the issue arose from a special session to be held at the CEN-IBS 2026. However, contributions are not restricted to those of the conference.

The deadline for fully developed papers is 31 May 2026. This deadline will be sharp. We expect that all papers will have been first reviewed by end of August 2026. The Special Issue will be continuously published with the online appearance of accepted manuscripts.

All papers have to be submitted via the online through the Research Exchange platform accessible via the Biometrical Journal homepage.
