Wiley is proud to announce that Statistics for Spatio-Temporal Data, written by Noel Cressie and Christopher Wikle and published in 2011, has won the 2013 DeGroot Prize, a major international award which is offered every two years by the International Society for Bayesian Analysis (ISBA).

The award is to be presented today at the ISBA World Meeting in Cancun, Mexico, where Christopher Wikle will be present to receive.

This is the second honour that the book has received after it won the 2011 PROSE Award in the Mathematics Category by the American Publishers for Professional and Scholarly Excellence.

Christopher Wikle told Statistics Views, "One of us knew Morrie DeGroot personally, and he was a great champion of Bayesian statistical inference, decision theory, and statistical applications. We wanted to write a book on spatio-temporal statistics that put all of this into a hierarchical statistical modelling framework. We're very pleased that the DeGroot Prize Committee saw the importance of this approach to uncertainty quantification, and we're distinctly honoured to receive this biennial prize.”

The main reference book for spatial statistics for nearly twenty years has been Noel Cressie’s Statistics for Spatial Data (Wiley, revised edition 1993) and Christopher Wikle has been referred to as “one of the sharpest and most innovative contributors to the literature of statistical spatio-temporal models” (Sansò, B. Mathematical Geosciences, November 2012, Springer). Wiley were delighted that Professor Cressie, now of University of Wollongong and Professor Wikle of University of Missouri joined forces to write Statistics for Spatio-Temporal Data and for a full interview on their award-winning collaboration, please click here
